In the OP example, with an Olsen of 4ppm, assuming little stacked residue, simply because the nutrients would not support lush growth, the pool of nutrients for the next crop is from the pool measured by Olsen and the decaying CRP residue. The OP options are to apply P at an aggressive rate or "let the biology do the work" Soil health warriors claim that good biology can pull P from the untapped reservoir, but I have not been able to do it "here".
So, I don't need to discuss it, I simply want to find the resource to explain the process to me.
What biological product did you try to do that? Have you ever had a soil DNA test done on your field? Better than a soil respiration because it identifies all of the species in the soil and groups them into categories based on function. Also, to be successful at adding biology to soil, timing is important and also you have to do it with balance with other microbes. Also sometimes you need to apply with a food source until it can make the relationship with the plants. You also have to be careful with what you apply it with. Lots of guys place biology with phosphorus fertilizer and that will inhibit the symbiotic relationships from forming. A lot of biological issues are also being caused because we are starting to row place every nutrient. That makes the biology lazy because the plant has everything it needs so it doesnt make the relationships or it doesn't utilize the biology enough to give it enough food to grow. With biology not being as active, they don't protect the plant from pests and disease which is why we are constantly seeing more and more issues arriving every year. The natural defense is being farmed out. The DNA tests show that the biology is just not there. |
