Subject: RE: Advice needed from background/stocker guys

Crossville, TN
Thanks for the advice. What do order buyers usually charge out there? .05?

I’m a cattle hauler. It’s my living. Peterbilt and spread axle Wilson, run it every week to Ne, Ks, Ia.
I’d proudly take them to be sold myself. I’d need to pay someone to gooseneck the inbounds though.

I need to dial in my feed cost.
I figured pelleted feed in a trough when grazing, but I don’t have experience on contents, quantities, prices.
I’m assuming I’d need to feed a dry hay based complete ration drylot style when the grass is done, I just don’t have experience on designing that ration. Corn/rye silage would be challenging to source and deliver in here.

On the market, why is spread less on hfrs?

In general, maybe I should look into other cattle systems for my place and circumstances.
90 day background/precon instead of 200 day feeding/growing
A dozen or so cow/calf
Feeding thin cows/selling on the rail
