North Mississippi Delta / Alabama Gulf Coast | I think in our area, cooling is more important than heating. A barndominium that is well insulated with vapor barrier under concrete can be cooled with split units or a standard system since a ceiling plenum would be available.
I put wall vents and ceiling fans in each room of the cabin to help circulate cool air from a sized split unit but cooling during Delta summers has been tough.
I added a window unit to my bedroom last summer.
