North Western IL | There is a guy who said he would be 1 of 3 farmers left in the county in the next decade. 4 combines, two sprayers, lots of trucks. Only family member I know of is his son. Didn’t inherit a bunch of dirt or cash, as far as I know.
I’m not sure how much he’s farming now, but it’s a ton. Not unusual to hear of him paying north of $500/acre rent.
How big are the discounts on seed, chem, and fert for someone that runs over 10,000+ acres? Are they big enough to make a $500 rent check net positive? | |
