Since 2000, (last 25 years) s&p has "gone up" less than a hunk of shiny metal.  In reality, it means the S&P has gained nothing, and actually lost value over the past 25 years, but is masked by the depreciating dollar.

The headline should read "S&P performs so poorly over past quarter century that it lost value compared to gold and silver which earns nothing"   ...but thanks for playing keynsian economics, and here's your tax bill for the inflation...
