 Chilliwack, British Columbia | When my grandfather built his new freestall barn in the early 80's, apparently all he did was pour a channel similar to yours, with a lip at the far end. The idea being, the bottom would fill with water, and the solids would float to the end where the reception pit was to be dealt with there.
I do like the idea of a flume like posted above, but that usually requires a pump to circulate the manure through the flume so as not to build up. I don't think you'll get enough flow from your waste water to clean the flume, or the channel as it sits. Either get all the water into a tank so you get a big flush of water at one time, or youll have to put a pump at the far end and circulate several times a day. The former is par for the course for our area.
