Central ND | I thought about dropping the RAM down, but since my new CAD software minimum is 32gb and recommended is 64, I figured this was a nice middle point when I saw the prices they want. It also recommends one of those threadripper processors, but the price of that alone about made me spit out my coffee, I don't use it THAT often.
I'm hesitant to go the route of "I'll upgrade it later" based on speculating that prices will drop, and I don't know enough about the current hardware to say "I'll change it to this later".
Last time (2013) I just walked into my local computer store and said "I need to build a pc to do this", he asked what my budget was and helped me pick the parts I needed to kept it reasonable ($1800ish). I did that this time and the guy told me "we only build gaming pcs" and gave me a $5800 quote for parts out of a display they had without listening and ignored me when I asked about alternative parts to make it cheaper.
