| You guys can do things with sand that we really can't do. Grazing wheat here is typically just a disaster. Grazing cornstalks without really, really damaging the soil has a very short window, some years there's nearly none. I've rotationally grazed crop fields in the past, but it has to be done in a very systematic way and you have to have outlet valves if the weather turns against you. Last July would have been a disaster. The numbers don't look as good when you pretty much have to dedicate single use acres to cows and calves. I've always figured cow/calf uses acres that otherwise would be waste, and if they could pay their own bills plus a little, that was a win. Right now at least they're paying for their own fences and maybe some lot improvements. |
