MN | I think that depends the pressure, rotation and past use of traits.
For rotated acres:
If you have not depended on traits in the past or trait performance has not declined, they are still the easiest way to protect from CRW.
If you have a hybrid that has performed well and is not CRW traited, then an insecticide is a good option. Under low pressure insecticides or traits will deliver similar yield response.
If trait performance has degraded or failed, or if there is moderate to high pressure CRW, then both traits and insecticide would be beneficial. Even though trait performance is less than expected it still helps under high pressure when supplementing an insecticide.
For continuous corn acres:
More scouting is required as pressures increase more rapidly but the above holds true. A ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. | |
