The seed/chem/fert/grain buyers/livestock lobbyist would have a fit that the govt is paying people to not plant and therefore farmers won’t need inputs.
That being said, it’d be interesting to get a push for payment on buffer/border strips along treelines/etc that drag yield down and are unprofitable acres. Many would say they want basically enough to make X dollars, but if they just paid the rent plus anything for maintenance of the acres afterwards it’d be a good deal for the farmer. Take acres your losing money on on a good year and get the rent paid by someone else… |
