Central Missouri | Was it overgrazed?
Learned this at the boonville covercrop conference years ago…….when livestock take a bite out of a plant it signals to the plant that it is under attack. The plant then goes into overdrive producing sugar and nutrient releasing compounds that the plant then pushes out its roots to stimulate biology and to change the rhizosphere to make more nutrients available to the plant for regrowth. If you graze pstures to the ground there is no green leaves to create the photosynthesis which creates sugar to stimulate that process.
I would do a total nutrient extraction test to see how many minerals of each type are in the soil. If the nutrients are there you just need to stimulate the biology to break them free. Manure and covers help that process.
I would also send soil samples off to ward labs and get soil health test done. That will give you a really good idea if biology is a. problem
