Central Missouri
The way total acre does it is you choose a field that you tissue test 2 locations in, one being an average yielding spot and another high yielding spot. You then tissue test every week in those spots. Total gets results from the lab and drops them into their software. You put your yield goal in the software and every week you bet a report for every nutrient telling you if you are low adequate or on the line to each nutrient being yield limiting, so they have nutrient sufficiency amount for every growth stage and yield goal up to probably 400 bu on corn.
After 3 years on our farm we knew which nutrients and when we were short for our yield goals. We then devised a timing method of application form and amount strategy for each of these nutrients. It took 2 years to figure it out. The last 2 years we have set 2 whole farm wheat yield records, 1 farm corn yield record which was 44 bu an acre higher than previous. We havnt had rain in august in 4 consecutive years now but our tissue samples are green for 100 bushel beans the last 2 years just inadequate rain in august. We dont expect 100 bu beans because other stresses affect yield beside nutrients. Our goal is 80 farm average.
Fixing deficient nutrients by foliar feeding after the fact is putting a bandaid on a gaping wound and is minimally effective depending upon the nutrient. You have to apply ahead of the uptake curve in form timing and amount plant wants.
Just our experience.
