East of Broken Bow | Jam 1 last year saw my cash corn prices just under $4
Jan 1 this year saw my cash corn prices just over $4, a gain of maybe 8-10 cents, but since then has dropped to below last years mid-January price by about the same amount.
Last year, I had a chance to book July delivered corn for $4.75 during planting......time will tell if that will pan out or not.
Fuel is a bit cheaper than last year, but not enough to make much difference.
I haven't priced much fertilizer, just asked the guy at the Co-Op, he said expect a similar fertilizer bill as last year.
So, so far, I haven't really seen much of anything as far as things being better or worse than this time last year, more questions will be answered moving forward.
As to my cattle, I normally sell calves late January or early February.
Last year I averaged between $1800-$1900 a head, this year I expect to get $2200-$2400 a head, or more (average all the way through), so that part is definately better.
Seed prices were flat
So, personally, I would say that the Trump Administration didn't really change things much (as of yet) either way for row crop farmers. Cattle prices are doing well, but that has more to do with lowered supplies than it does anything the government has done. | |
