NWIL | Purebred herd.
All calves get a hand written Y-Tex tag at birth with cows number. Each year I pick a new color for the calves, mainly for variety (will use anything except orange, I just think they look like feedyard tags), with several years between each color. Anymore, kids decide what color this year will be.
Once save heifers are picked, they get an engraved red on white Ritchey tag that has their new herd number put in it that matches their tattoo. First number is the year of birth. Always tag in the left ear as that is the side one is standing if they go through a chute. | |
