
| Irrigation definitely changes the amount of work for crop farming (less than 20% of acres are irrigated) but the point still remains that crop farming is less work per acre, per bushel, per dollar, etc; than at any point in history.
Its also less risk than at any point in history.
Add that all together (along with a few other reasons) and you get smaller margins driving the industry towards consolidation.
