 Jewell County KS | We start tagging calves with #1 every year. Bulls one color and heifers another. We have a rotation of colors that we stick to. Yellow older than blue red older than orange and so on.
Replacement heifers are tagged with the same color as the little tag. Little tag stays in permanent
Allflex printed tags but a word of caution don't use the black ones as they are unreadable after 8 or 10 years.
This works ok but would like to get to a system of cows and calves having the same tag number to cut down on paperwork. I also do not know how it would go tagging calves with handwritten tags after birth in crappy weather. | |
