nc ks | I get asked multiple times most years to fill out a survey or answer questions over the phone. I don't see the usda as my friend. I don't think anyone should know how much grain is on the farm besides the farmer and his banker and his accountant. I don't think they should know my planting intentions. They know fairly quickly what we certified for planting. They know fairly quickly after harvest what we report to crop insurance. If they must put out a report, put out facts. The expected yield and plantings reports are garbage and only reflect the best that can be possibly expected and put an expected surplus on the market before we even grow it and holds the price down. I'm not going to give them any information that I don't have to. I play their silly fsa games because that money inflates the cost of goods used primarily in agriculture that I need to purchase. With the higher expenses and the artificial caps on our commodities they have us in a box. I am not complaining about being a farmer because I wouldn't want to do anything else and most people don't have that luxury. I am just responding with my opinion of the usda and their reports and why I don't respond to optional surveys.
