Hi Eddie,

the article that you linked describes research in Egypt where 2 major factors contributing to cobalt deficiency are common : sandy soil and high pH. In addition, the article specifies a soil pH of 8.0 and a sandy loam texture (70% sand).

Soils formed from most Midwest geologic materials w/ a pH of 6-7 are much less likely to have cobalt deficiency.

A map showing cobalt content of the A horizon of US soils should be attached. The blue colors are where cobalt deficiency is most likely.
