I had wheat with no snow cover and a couple -5 to -10 night stretches last winter with no harm to the stand. Canola ended up 99% dead from the same conditions.
A January thaw that left patchy ice before a cold snap has caused the most winter injury here on wheat for me and it has been 10 years since I had any bad enough to question if I should keep it.
