You shouldn’t cash rent. Have someone custom farm it.

If was going to not farm would have it custom farmed on shares @ 15% for custom farming it

If I remember right, you at one time said 20% to farmer? Or maybe that was just a deal for your son (which I understand doing better for). For 15% I’d not consider custom farming for someone. Not if you are doing every aspect, like spraying every pass and fertilizing like I’d expect you to expect someone to do. Not enough meat left on that bone IMO, with no upside homerun potential on that magic year. 20% I’d consider if we could figure out the fertilizing piece… I’d have no idea how to start there

Would include no charge for drying and storage@ on the 15% part. Maybe you wouldn't do it, buy my guess there would plenty who would.

.

What do you think a reasonable persons cost should be to do your custom work in all reality?

I imagine you mean corn on corn as you’ve said you primarily do that along with wheat/DC beans. Let’s just look at the corn on corn piece of it.
-Who hauls the fertilizer to your storage building from the river?
-Who manages the loading of the blender and the blending?
-Who tends the fertilizer to the spreaded
Dry fertilizer truck pass with blending at your place
Fall tillage deep till pass
Fall or spring anhydrous pass
Spring tillage pass
Plant with liquid application on planter most likely
Spring herbicide pre pass
Side dress pass with liquid application
Post chemical pass
1 pass at least and maybe 2 of fungicide
-who dos this fungicide pass?
Harvest with combine and grain carts
Truck grain to your storage/drying facility
-Who manages the drying facility/dryer?
Load out and haul corn to the city from your place

220 bushel corn? Or more? $5.00 on average let’s say with your non gmo premium?

15% of that is $165

The custom guy also Needs to decide if he’s going to spend a couple dollars an acre on crop insurance for their 15%. So a couple more bucks away from the $165 gets it to $162 let’s say

Now the beauty of it for the custom farmer is limited downside, but that means limited upside too

All the respect in the world too as I ask these for the debate. As I hope you know
