Subject: RE: Pack factor for measuring bins

Monroe City, MO

I'm not sure I agree with these charts. I can't prove it but we fill our dry bins with a 5 inch air system. Our dryer isn't very big and often we are running only 500ish bushels per hour. Using a spreader at this low rate where every kernel gets thrown hard against the roof or onto the floor "seems" to create a very dense grain pack as opposed to dropping into the center of the bin and just rolling down to the side walls at the angle of repose. Like I said I can't prove it but our 42-foot bins always have more corn in them than a measurement would indicate.
