That seems a little backwards for sure, brush trucks are probably the most used here? I mean in all reality if its a serious structure fire youre just trying to keep it contained to 1 building. Prairie fires or car accidents are our most common, brush/squad trucks are a good fit for that

Im going to agree with that 100% .

We would never use a ladder truck if we had one .

The one ton 4x4 brush trucks are our main line we use .

I actually drive a 1 ton single tire pickup. carry i think 250 water in the bed , itd called the rapid response truck.

supossed to be way faster to get there , lighter.

What absolutly sucks for me is it seems im always the farthest away , live farthest from station ( 7 miles ) ..

Seems all the things that happen are around station 2 , im at 1 .

If its bad and everyone cant wait on me , they will tell me they got to go , ill go in my pickup .Cheif will say if he wants me to grab a truck . If ours are gone , i have to go 11 miles to get started with a truck .

The absoulte miles i have to cover make it a problem .

Some guys can walk to station 2 , they are always FIRST.

My ast.cheif , my Cap , are fulltimers and medics , their brothet is on with us too . Hes got 4 years . very solid crew over there .

The problem is most of the time one or both are on shift .

The other fellow from 2 works for cheif , if they are out of town , that leaves just me and a guy with 2 months on .

If everything hits just right , we can come with a big crew and probally 3-5 trucks . If it hits wrong all you get is me until i get help .

Our sheriffs department is pretty good about sending help , we work alot with a real town -Dawson , Tx .

They are VFD but almost have a professional type , nice ( for rural tx ) station .

The good part is there are so many of them , you are going to get help .

Its about the best we can do with what we got .

10 miles the other way , my wifes cousin is the cheif .

They dont hardly come out our way , but would if called .

There are actually alot of us in the county , most people would not really know how many of us there are . The BAD problem is we are all so far apart and spread out .

I probally would really be shocked if I saw what the poor fellows in ND had to face . I have never been there , but ill bet its way worse for distance than what we do ?

What kicks my ass is these winding FM roads , lots of gravel. 10 over the speed limit , Yeah thats a joke . Do good to run 40 on some of them :(

There has to be somthing to help this deal , but dang i dont know what it is .
