Subject: RE: Fertilizer calculator

Chebanse, IL.....

The idea of using less than recommended rates by utilizing fertilizing in strips seems to be becoming popular.....again. All of our 490, 494, & 495 planters put a good reduced rate off the side 2". I realize that's on in the seed trench strip, but it's as close as we wanted to get it.

But, the percent of reduction seems to come out of mid-air somehow. I have heard locally of recommendations of needing only 30% of normal, not 30% less, but 30% of full normal rate. I assume someone is right & someone is wrong. And more apparently, the full normal rates are wrong in every case?

I search a lot for yield data from strip tillage, in direct comparison to conventional tillage and either band application or broadcast applications of P&K in either tillage configuration. I'm always interested in following links to good independent sxs test results in long term situations. I will say they are hard to find

I also ask if there are considerations for farm lease/rental requirements re. fertilization reductions.
