Kent County MI | Hard on them? No. Motor and drive train used like they are supposed to be? Also no. they get quite a bit of "hard" miles and quite a few engine hours put on them. I think the hardest on ours is the emission systems. Our oldest engine is a 2003. the only one that doesn't have DEF. We have a 2016 Rosenbauer engine with a 9L Cummins that has been rebuilt 2x in the 18-20k miles it has due to a derate that dumped fuel in the crankcase. Whoever designed that pile should be kicked in the ... The 2023 engine 15k miles with the Cummins is dumping coolant somewhere but not on the ground. AIS (local heavy equipment specialists) cant find it, it smells sometimes but nothing obvious. It also has a lot of gremlins that we have to deal with because its a custom built truck with a lot of features, good thing the manufacture is only 45 min away. The old trucks that are basic that require a decent operator are pretty stout, the newer ones are gonna be a real issue as they get older. | |
