There has to be a lot more to this story. Perhaps low productivity index? Someone who lives there could answer this better than a bunch of guesses and surmisings.
Linneburs and Kalciveks have been well established heavy hitters in that area for 50 years.
I doubt Kalciveks fallow 1 acre anymore.
No till and crop rotation has changed all.that.
