Fire trucks are a bit like tire trucks, both have critical tools/accessories that do wear out when used a lot. And both put on a lot more engine hours versus road miles compared to other vehicles. Driver/operator training and level of maintenance has always been important, probably even more important with newer fire trucks. When I see fire trucks driving to get groceries in the Twin Cities, it's a silly waste of resources despite the claims that it's necessary so firemen can respond immediately to a call. Seems like it would be smarter to set up an account with a grocery store and have the groceries delivered to the fire station rather than putting additional wear and tear on a very expensive fire truck.
