Reno Co KS | They are always loaded, 24 -7. A grain truck is loaded, dumped, parked over night unloaded, unloaded when not being used etc. Fire trucks are always under a load with most pushing gvw.
Our ladders, truck companies, whatever you want to call the ones with ladders mounted on them, get the snot rattled out of them on washboard roads. The engines and tenders do too but the trucks just take it harder.
Emissions is always causing issues just like all newer rigs, maybe even more so. They never get driven 100 miles straight so constantly need a forced regen.
Wiring can also cause head aches. Miles in newer rigs.
I wouldn't touch a brush truck unless it's one I knew the hx of.
We will run a truck over 100k before it is rotated out in about 10 to 15 years. We are a rarity putting those kind of miles on trucks but have a large distinct. The large city department across the street will put half as many miles but more wear in that time frame. Alarm volume and culture play big into how well rigs are treated.
We do have certified EVTs, emergency vehicle techs, and they do a hell of a job with our fleet! They have a sticker on their maintenance pickups the says, "Without us, you walk!". We owe a lot to those guys.
