A 30 year old fire truck is not worn out as a truck, maybe obsolete and hard to keep in service depending on the construction. Unless the fire station is on a highway, they're not driven that much harder than any other vehicle the couple blocks to get up to speed, certainly easier than most volunteer responder's vehicles!
