my dad was never unsupportive, he just wasn't rich, and was also cautious. its much easier to appear supportive of your kids ambitions when you've got money to burn. ive seen that in the farming world all too often. i hope i can do that for my kids someday also though too. (i have a 4 and 8 year old and we got them in the sweetcorn business this year, maybe one of them will make it a big farmers market some day? we are close to town so its possible

for example, i built my bins first and hoped he'd let me build them on his farmstead where i grew up in order to have it all in one place when i was farming his and mine both some day. also to have one place to do stuff like check bins, run fans, etc. also in my favor there was already main power ran and gravel. dads answer was, that it wasn't that he didn't want mine there, but if he or i died unexpectedly how would it get handled? and when mom and dad pass how could he split that fairly with my siblings? or what is he and mom, or me and my wife unexpectedly got divorced? i had to get a loan on the bins as well, idk how that would have worked getting a lease/loans on bins not on my property? one person's answer is... have your dad build it and lease it off of him till its paid for... again, not rich, so not an option.
all are real situations that can happen, and many times something like this happens and a mom or dad bail out a child in the case of a divorce or death or whatever. thats just not how things are done in my family. and thats ok.

i can honestly say i wouldn't be farming if it wasnt for being my dads son though. so i'm very grateful for that. i have picked up most of my ground because i was either my dads son or my grandfathers son. good family name or dad or grandpa did some big favors in the past for someone. some was offered to dad first and he asked if they'd be willing to rent to me. some ive gotten becaue they saw my improvements on other farms, but i got those original farms because of my family name... thats my early inheritance i see it in the farming world.
