We can’t help where our ancestors moved to . One branch of my family can over and settled in Knox county Illinois in the 1870s. They were there for five years and decided it was intelligent to chase cheap land in Knox county Nebraska! Yikes. No offense to knox county farmers today. Thank goodness they ended up in Dawson county on what turned out to be by the interstate, and had water they didn’t really know about
