Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | From my observations using auto or assisted steering in a 2WD tractor has mixed results. Some seem to work OK, others not so great. Front end weights can make quite a difference as well as the implement being used.
I have both Ag Leader's Steer Command Z2 integrated steering in a tractor and Ag Leader's assisted steering called Steady Steer in my combine.
You mention you don't want another "box" in the tractor. There is a Steering Controller Module with either system so either way there would be "another box".
This other box is mounted on the floor beside the seat on my tractor and out of the way. It is mounted on a plate on the right side of the seat in my combine and out the way on it also.
You mention not wanting to hang anything on the steering wheel which I can understand. The Ag Leader Steady Steer motor mounting assembly does mount on the steering wheel but turns the steering wheel by using a ring mounted under the steering wheel. The motor is fairly small and easily removed from its mount and could just be unplugged and stored elsewhere if not needed or desired. This is a much cleaner approach than the old EZ Steer motor and mount.
Steer Command Z2 would be the deluxe approach with no change to the steering wheel. Both have worked well for me.
