Southeast Colorado | I guess I can still hash over the "tough times" angle.
Perhaps I'm just like the folks in the Alabama song that have always been too poor to tell. Economic wise.........we're about the same today as we were when corn was $7. Back then it was so damn dry here we couldn't grow any. Went over 4 years with less than 5" average annual rainfall. This year we grew a somewhat average to better crop. I made more money this year then I did back in the glory days of $7 corn.
Anyway............it's certainly never been about money for me. So perhaps I'm a bit off my rocker. And as of today........we're going to slowly transition back to more cows. Cheap land, and owning it, here, I reckon allows those kind of decisions to happen. I'm not going to buy a bunch of cows though. I'll just retain most of my heifers so that it happens gradually. And hopefully protects me from the proverbial rug pull. | |
