SW WI | I would be fine with the stepped up basis, when land is transferred to ACTIVE farming family members after death.
I disagree with it being a tool for “ just another investment “ of someone that is just concerned about return on their asset, that they didn’t put in the sweat and worry to hang onto. Sure, a lot of farm kids helped when they were young…..and then 40 years later of a successful career with no links to the farm is supposed to be rewarded, tax wise?
Our ancestors left the old country for the opportunity of America…..and that door is closing for future generations…..especially young people that want to farm.
I’ve said many times…..a new feudal system is happening.
