Subject: Registering cattle with American shorthorn association

Does anybody have experience with registering shorthorn beef cattle? I purchased a few pregnant registered cattle and paid to transfer the registration. I then intended to register the calves and future generations from these cattle. However after looking at the fee schedule it appeared to be pretty spendy. A few years have past and I came across the fee schedule by chance and now see that I potentially was looking at it wrong. I could also call the number on the sheet but figured id ask on here and try to get some opinions also.
So if I have an actively registered cow that calves is there actually no fee to register the calf? Is the only fee the cost of the yearly membership if I just remember to register new calves in a timely manner? It seems i remember a person i talked to back then told me something about a yearly assessment also. Is it worth doing this or am I missing something. We have been AI ing our cattle from the start so thinking maybe would be worthwhile? How does working with the shorthorn association compare to working with any other breed associations if anybody would be able to share . Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks
