North Central Illinois | I had to replant some naked beans last spring. Seedcorn maggots were pretty bad in patches (was rye cover crop and pennycress killed within the past week that was definitely a contributing factor). I'd maybe have gotten away without replanting though if I hadn't also killed at least 1/3 of the stand with the rotary hoe to keep the weeds from taking over (organic). This is the only time in 10 years of organic soybeans that I've had a stand issue from insect damage that seed treatment could have possibly prevented. | |
