Nebraska aka the boondocks | Frankly I don’t really understand all the howling every time a program comes out. First I would note, it is fairly clear we don’t really have a current farm policy, bereft of leadership.
Beyond that, as many know, in the 1980s not everyone needed help. I recall one neighbor, who walked into the bank presidents office and yelled at them, asking why they didn’t eat all his loans too. But since he was beyond solvent, he got nothing. No write down, no special bankruptcy provisions, nothing. I am aware of at least two operations that declared bankruptcy twice years ago, that are in pretty damn good place today! I know two guys, both deceased who actually had campers during the PIK days, and those campers parked at the fsa and elevator paid handsomely for their kids. Everyone may need a little help at some point, just depends on what decade it is
We are in yet another era of lower relative prices, why would anyone expect anything else than the same old same old? Farming is nothing more than Groundhog Day, you just have to stay a little ahead of the curve
