Well not only eliminate stepped up basis but also lower the cap on inheritance to 500k. The mindset of protecting family farms is one of the biggest contributors to the consolidation that is eliminating family farms. As a good friend, I don’t like to disagree with you on many things. But this one I do. It’s any family business. Are you suggesting lawmakers single out farms only and tax them separate? Or be fair and tax all family businesses? So you can hope to have lower land values as a result, theory being more businesses put on the auction block. |
