Subject: RE: 80's and alcohol

Have seen family, friends, and others drink to excess, and still function very normally. Have also seen the opposite. Now days it is more than just alcohol. Too many lay it off as stress and social pressure. For those that are not there, it is hard to understand.
Feel part of the underlying problem is the lack of family and community. People spending too much time working or doing other activities. How many do not even have family meals together? Witness the lessening numbers of service or social groups.
Farmers in general are worse. They tend to work alone, long hours, and little or no down time. Add in the financial stress and uncertainty. How many actually take a vacation, or set aside time for family.
Substance abuse is a symptom, not a cause.
