Illinois | Make yourself too busy making money to drink. Grain farming by itself is not too appealing right now. What is your skill-set and interests? I assume your area has cattle. Could you offer a cattle hauling service? How about contacting a local dozing and excavation contractor and offering to run one of his machines? They are always looking for skilled labor. Does the local farm equipment dealer need someone to assemble new equipment as it comes in? Usually that is a separate function from their normal shop service and usually they look to outside labor for that job.
You asked more for advice to help stop drinking, but you’re drinking because of hard financial times. Let your farm heal itself financially by not pulling money out of it to live on. Use those outside jobs to live on, and if you start to see the finances get easier, you’ll be a much happier person and just might have no desire to drink anymore. | |
