Cen Ks | We've had a sales tax exempt account at Sam's Club for many years. A recent purchase got interesting. Sam's Club recently (Kansas only?) did a major reboot of their system. All tax exempt accounts require a new application process. The local store customer service wouldn't accept a Ks sales tax exempt form. She insisted we needed an account number. She showed me her computer screen; it had a box for an account number. Unless she put a number in, that's as far as the program let her go. For non-Kansas folks, the Ks sales tax ag exempt form is quite basic...very simple. All it requires is buyer/seller name& address; a few boxes to check & signature. No account number required. For someone not familiar with the form, it looks outdated (1960s) they may not even realize it IS genuine. Any ag retailor in Kansas accepts them with no questions asked. But NOT Sam's Club.
Any way it took a bit but after several days I got a call from someone up the chain of command. I explained the situation. A few hours later they called back and said we were good to go. Apparently the designers of their new program hadn't realized Kansas does not require any personal/business identification or account number to use the ag exempt status.
Has anybody else had a recent disruption in their tax exempt accounts at Sam's ?
Maybe other states have a up-to-date tax exempt form that looks "official" !! | |
