southern MN | Back in the day many many moons ago, dad would do the twine as pictured, sisal twine. Then he would put corncobs down under the front string to get it tight.
Usually they would have the corncobs knocked out in a day or less, and the sort of loose now twine rubbed off in a couple of days. Otherwise pretty easy to get off in a couple days when feeding again.
