I will NEVER cut horns off leaving the stumps...... I did it once with the advice of the vet on some 2 year olds. NEVER AGAIN! ...........TALK about and UGLY dirty sucker of a cow when you do that. They still use the stumps on other cows and the owner of the cow, and the stumps keep growing if you do it to young cows. Get her in the head gate, halter the head tight and tie it back, USE a big horn cutter or wire to cut with or a saw and cut them off up against the head and twist the veins or cauterize them if bleeding is a concern.. Make sure they are not eating sweet clover or other blood thinning forage.
Or simpler way, GET the vet to do it for you!
