| Here in Michigan 88 octane (E-15) is only .05 cents a gallon cheaper than 87 octane (E-10). That is if a gas station even sells it. Meijer is a major retailer here in the upper midwest. They recently remodeled the gas station in my home town. New pumps and tanks. They added E-15 to their line up. 6 months after the remodel they had sold none of the E-15. They advertised it for .99 cents a gallon and still couldn't sell it. There was 12 pumps with E-15 available. Now there is only one.
No one in my town (population 15,000) knew what 88 octane was or what E-15 was. There had only been 87, 93 and E-30 whatever octane that is. Plus Rec gas which is ethanol free.
It would take a major advertising campaign of months if not years to get the public informed of what E-15 is. You are not going to change the way consumers purchase fuel for their vehicles overnight. People are stuck in their ways and are not going to put gas in a vehicle that costs more than their first house unless they are 110% sure it will do no harm to their vehicle. | |
