E.Central MN | It worked better for us when we got the attachment for the headgate so the animal's head was locked in place. Before that we tried using chains/ropes, but it's harder to hold the head from moving, if the animal jerks around too much you have to stop cutting to avoid injuring the cow. The faster you get it done the less stress on the animal. We tried blood stop powder years ago, but the last time we dehorned an animal, we used one of those electric dehorners to cauterize the blood vessels so it didn't bleed all over the place. Main thing is to hold the animal securely so nobody gets injured in the process. | |
