Yes, that would work. Extended support for Windows 10 will buy another 1 to 3 years. But, eventually, we need a better option.
I wonder how much effort would go into writing extensions for QGIS, to allow reading and saving the various proprietary formats? I think we'd be better off with open formats, but would need to do some translations.
