I did a lot of research in 2009 on this subject and found this is the only thing that every major university and seed company at the time agreed on. Any row spacing under 22inch had small advantages, I believe it was anywhere from .8 to 3.5 bu advantage. We switched from 15 to 22inch then and then went to 20 inch in 2015 and have been very happy. That was there scientific replicated plots, listening to neighbors they claim really good ground 30 inch are just as good and I believe them, but light soil narrow rows shine.
