 Thumb of Michigan | I sure hope not. I've been feeding alfalfa/grass hay to my cows for decades; they are getting a lot more alfalfa than you're giving to your cows. Hopefully it's not a HERE only thing.
Edit: normally alfalfa has higher calcium than grasses (HERE) and milk fever is a shortage of calcium is my understanding. Milk fever is also more prevalent in dairy cows too (a lot higher milk production than beef cows).
