NW Illinois | Mine was $3800.00 this year. That's one desktop access and one mobile app access. From a soil testing and fertilizer rec making standpoint, I would say yes to competing with SMS. It is very easy to use if that's the main use. Those that use SMS for other things like yield maps, and know what they are doing with SMS, would probably say SMS has better functionality for data processing.
Myself, it was a hard choice this year. I chose to stay in FieldAlytics, but not by much. It has gone from $1700 a year in 2017 to $3800 this year, and I don't see them stopping with the price increases.
I like it, just don't know how long I can justify the cost of it.
Edit to Add: FieldAlytics ain't gonna like me saying it, but I don't care. Best way forward for smaller individuals is to share an access. Only one can use desktop or mobile app at a time, but at least the cost can be spread over more acres.
