That 1373 should be a good mower for you. You will need 100 horsepower, or preferably a little more depending on how steep your hills are to run it. Everyone has a different budget but if your a beginner making 100 acres of hay, i would probably start with a used mower. I think a nice used 1411 or 7230 New holland for 7500-15K or less would very easily cut 100 acres a couple times a year. Baling/handling and selling 100 acres of hay is going to be harder than mowing it.
We will have a MF 5M 135 HP. We are making hay for a small beef cattle operation so we don't plan to sell it. I'm nervous about buying used because we can't afford to have things go wrong with machinery during this first year of start-up. I think machinery will make or break us so we figure it is worth it to start with new for the more complicated items. |
