East of Broken Bow | I know it's an older model, but we've been extremely satisfied with our Case IH 4800 with the heavier shanks. They came with both S shanks and heavier spring-loaded shanks, we have the heavier shanks and it works well doing a single pass in soybean stubble, or as a second pass in cornstalks. I 'think' the shanks we have were called 'vibra-chisel' shanks.
It is a 5 bar machine, hard to plug, its biggest weaknesses would be it is not single point depth control, you have to turn 4 cranks to set depth (at least you turn them all the same) and the harrow can be a challenge to set so that it does a good job breaking up clods without dragging trash. It can be done, but sometimes takes several tries before you get the depth/down pressure just right. | |
